That’s a wrap, folks

Another fabulous fishing season is drawing to a close. We are just wrapping up our last week with fishing guests, taking a few weeks to do some work round the camp and in the bush, then back at it for two weeks of moose hunting.

The past two weeks have been unusual for September fishing. Generally, the walleye bite picks up as the water cools. This year, first of all, the fishing didn’t really diminish in the summer at all. We are getting excellent catches throughout the summer. So, September seemed to produce consistently strong numbers of walleye. This past week however, it seemed to slow a bit with the return of hot summer weather. But that only slowed things for a few days, and now the boys are back hammering the walleye. Fred, caught and released a beautiful 27 ” walleye last night in fact. _MG_5499But the big story this week have been the Northern Pike. Pat caught and released 3 pike over 40″, and 3 more at 38″ and 39″. The other guys did well too, with 5 40″ masters released this week. Gotta love that, and love how conscientious sportsmen release those large fish. It is an awesome lake that produces enough fish that you can feast on a meal of fresh fish, and still live release the breeders.

So, thank you to all our guests for the wonderful season here on Kipawa. We appreciate your support of our lodge and look forward to seeing you back next year.

Cheers,

Dave and Julie
